Planning.

The internal anxiety to achieve success is as old a problem as the human race itself. The human mind has been trained and wired to think of the consequences of failure rather than the glory of achievement, much before either comes knocking.

What should be a life of dreaming and achieving is, thus, reduced to a life of worrying and failure. All of us know the affects and effects of positive thinking, but very few of us can bring ourselves to act on it. When faced by a challenge which in any situation won’t be more daunting than mere turning up at an appointed hour, at a pre-determined location for a known discussion, we
start to wonder about things such as what if we can’t turn up at the right time? What if we lose our way? Or more hilarious options like, what if my tie is not of the right length or crazier still, what if the other person doesn’t respond? The effort that we put in conjuring up such fantastic hurdles in our lives could well be used in creating a more positive atmosphere around us. Of telling ourselves that each piece of the grand puzzle will fit in to its place to reveal the amazing beauty of what is, life.

Not much in my life has gone according to the plan. Ideally I should have been in IIT. Ideally I should have thereafter done an MBA from a B school that would get me a job which paid so much that my only worry would have been to invest it properly to avoid more problems of taxation. Ideally by the age that I am right now, I should have been well settled in a place where I had a huge car, a grand house in one of the Metros and with enough money in my account so that a trip to Phuket would be like a drive from Mumbai to Pune.

But it is not.

I didn’t graduate from IIT. I went to an obscure engineering college in one remote part of the country. A place more famous for its Vada Pavs rather than an engineering college. But think of this. I did have few of the most memorable years in that place. It was one of the most beautiful places in the country. I am sure if I was in IIT I would have repeated a 5 point someone, but instead I passed out a Mumbai University Topper. And got into one of the most renowned conglomerates of India.

Logic says, there after the planning should have kicked in. MBA from that insane B school would have come. With job security already in place, all I would have to do was work my way to the top. Well, my path was a little different. I took to an institute which only those who were working in that field would know about. That also when told about the mother brand that it came under. Most of the time I elicited a response which ranged from a surprised “where?” to a more questioning, “really?”

But again, take a note of this. I did go to an institute which I feel is as good as those insane pay package B schools. An institute which allowed me to be, well, me. It gave me the opportunity to hold my camera right in the face of the most celebrated personalities of this country and say, “well, this is what I am learning.” Where my class room was not just a room, but an open canvas on which I painted and re-painted till I got the master piece. What that institute gave me is incomparable. It took a lot away from me, but none of those sacrifices were for waste. For I believe, what I gained was about as high as those insane pay packages. Though my real pay package is not even covered under the current tax slab.
I can’t think of flying to Phuket as if it was a Mumbai-Pune drive. But I can always think of Mumbai-Pune drive. And you know what? Think of this- every time I drive, I enjoy being in the driver’s seat… looking around and listening to my radio. Now, will you be able to enjoy flying to Phuket that much? Are you allowed to steer the aircraft yourself? And I am sure, the wind in the hair experience won’t be too welcomed in the aircraft.

I also don’t have an insane pay package so forget a bank account full of money. Hence I don’t have the worries of taxation to bother me either. The day I feel like going out for a grand meal, I don’t think of which place to go to. I think of: I want to go out. And I leave. Wherever the destination might be. However expensive or however cheap.

For me a holiday is not where, but with who and how. How being in question to enjoyment and not means. I live free of these tensions. I live free of the money I get from my job. Of course I don’t advocate this style to anyone, to each his own.

What I do advocate is a life little less complicated. A life, little less stressful. A life, where we are not constrained by who we want to be, who we should be and who we actually are. A life where we don’t have the negativity surrounding us like a bubble. A life not spent anxious about the outcomes that may not even happen. There is an equal probability of success and failure, and don’t contest me, an engineer, on that. So if I have the equal chance of success, why should I give more time to worrying than to celebrate my probable success?

Live life with a touch of hope and an attitude of happiness. It can change your world.

Path of Life

I never believed in saying things that I knew. I thought knowing it was more than enough. I felt if I knew what the truth is, I could easily convince myself of the same.
But of late, I have got mightily confused in my head with what I know and what I wanted to convince myself with. Somehow, I was not being able to get over with the things I knew I would have to someday accept. Somehow, I was ready to move ahead yet didn't know how to or where to start from.

People thought all my talks of knowing and realizing what I have to do was just mere words and no more. In fact, I was almost close to convincing myself that yes that is the truth.

Yet, like always, one place, one process of dwelling over things made my mind clear.
Quiet time. And thought sharing.

I didn't know if I could ever come to terms with few events and things in my life. Until I shared it with people. Until I went ahead and told everyone about those events. Now it has become easier to let things go, accept the eventuality of life.
And more importantly, to know that you can do what you want.

From where i sat, the world looked flat.
But over the brow, there was a path below.

Maybe a path i have walked before,
yet a journey still to unfold.

Curving and twisting like everyone's life,
leading to an undiscovered prize.

People coming in your life and going,
in your heart new emotions they keep sowing.

I wonder where this path will lead,
I pray for strength from lord almighty.

The Candle still ignites the Hope

As i got up today in the morning and was getting my thoughts oriented all i could thin
k of was a year back, when i got out of my bed in AP to start the shooting for the Indo-Japaness Caux meeting.

What followed was a journey of seven days that has moulded my life and given me a character that i, with all my faults, still feel proud of. In those seven days i found some of the most amazing people who taught me so many wonderful leassons.

Right from Mike, Suresh uncle, Leena aunty, Jagdish uncle and aunty, Nima, James, Mr. Gomes, Netra Parikh and not to forget dear old Vish uncle. (well i am just putting names to some of them, in essence i can sit and name every single person, even the gaurd who rings that gong near the school field).

A lot has changed in last one year. Uncle Vish would now be telling the amazing stories of life and teaching human skills up in heaven, Mike's family has grown and so has Jagdish Uncle's with a beautiful grand daughter and even my best friend Avni who went to AP for a month long internship and came back much at peace with her self, changed person she became, but that feeling and that spirit still lives in me.

Everyday i question my self, how is it possible to live with that spark for so long? How does that little spark flicker through the storms of life, how great is its strength then?

I wonder if i will ever get an answer to it, but i am glad that spark still carries on. With constant struggle in life, each element of that place reminds me and teaches me few leassons. The mighty table land teaches me to stand strong and face the harshest of storms, the tall trees remind me to aim high, the pathways remind me to make an attempt to find the correct path way to traverse in my life and the calm surroundings teach me to control my anger. The evening culture program put up by my batch reminds me of the potential that we have and what we can achieve. The 4 aspects of life... Purity, Honesty, Unselfishness and Lovepinched with our own little bit of sacrifice teaches me the amazing bond we can have and of course the chatter box keeps me on my toes.... Not to forget the wash up time.... serve with a smile without thinking whose job you are doing as long as you are happy.

Today, i just want to thank every single person who i have had the pleasure to meet through AP. The most amazing set of teachers i have come across.

Thanks to Avni for helping me keep that spirit going.

Thanks to Revati, my script writer for the film. Girl our lives might have taken us away from each other but i can never forget the person whose shoulder I wept on because my eye was hurting so badly and you held me. THANK YOU for everything and teaching me so much in life.
and finally

THE SMOKE SONG.

“It’s just you and I, and a 100 mile,
It’s a long journey, but we’ll end it in a flurry.
Walking hand in hand, playing our band.
Heaven shall listen, you and I kissing.”

“It’s a tiring path, causes us bleeding heart,
Relentless we walk on, singing our sweet song.
Destination we shall reach, life’s final beach.
Battered and bruised, but to the new world we’ll cruise.”

“Walking hand in hand, playing our band.
Heaven shall listen, you and I kissing.”

“The milestones we fly by, answering when and why,
No reasons no complaints, none to restrain.
Smoke in the air, wind in the hair,
Roads keep intersecting, path keeps complicating.”

“It’s just you and I, and a 100 mile,
It’s a long journey, but we will end it in a flurry.”

“In the distance we see, as the end we reach,
A glowing sun set, with eyes all wet.
Wishing to walk no more, and knocking the last door,
With you I shall sleep, and leave the world to weep.”
